Faith Binns

MIDLAND, MI-Faith Mary Binns, 87 of Midland, passed away Sunday evening, November 3, 2024 at Bickford of Midland where she resided for the past two years.

She was born June 16, 1937 in Negaunee, daughter of the late Harvey Hendrik (Hirvi) Koski and Viana (Tuuri) Koski. After graduating from high school, Faith went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Michigan Tech where she had earned the Faculty Women’s Scholarship. While there, she was a student member of the American Chemical Society, a member of Theta Chi Epsilon sorority, and an honorary member of Phi Lambda Upsilon Honor Society. Faith began her career as a research chemist with Dow Corning in their Physical Chemistry Lab in 1959. After three years, Faith left her chemistry career to begin her family with her husband Maurice Binns, whom she married April 16, 1962. During this time, she co-owned and operated two businesses, Maple Grove Laundry and Maple Grove Oil Supply. After 22 years away, Faith returned to her chosen vocation with Dow Chemical Company. She worked in various capacities within the legal department before retiring in 2002 after 18 years with the company. As a working professional, Faith once again became a member of the American Chemical Society. She was also an active member within her community, working with the United Way, Friends of Finland, and teaching Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Aside from her career, community, and family, Faith enjoyed taking time for herself. She enjoyed working on her family tree, playing Bingo, putting together a puzzle, or sitting down with a good book.

Faith is survived by her three sons, Scott (Tracey) Binns, Kevin (Tana) Binns, and Tim (Jen) Binns; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and brothers, Lowell (Geri) Koski and Arthur Koski.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Morrie Binns; sister Delight (Jack) Deane; and many brothers and sisters in law.

Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Faith’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4-7 p.m. and again on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
