Lawrence Tavernini

MARQUETTE, MI – Lawrence Adam Tavernini, age 61, known as Larry to his friends and family, passed away on October 9, 2024, at home in Marquette. Born on August 17, 1963, the son of Lawrence and Marjory (Rastello) Tavernini, in Altus, Oklahoma, Larry was a man whose kindness, professionalism and personal passions left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Raised in Marquette, Larry graduated from Marquette Senior High School in the Class of 1981. His pursuit of education led him to Northern Michigan University, Washtenaw Community College, Eastern Michigan University, and in Wisconsin, Madison Area Technical College and Cardinal Stritch College–a wide-ranging educational journey through many interests that went full circle back to NMU, where he completed his bachelor of science degree in History with a minor in Business Administration in 1995.

On July 28, 1990, Larry married the love of his life, Rebecca Robinson. Together they enjoyed exploring and living in Ann Arbor, southern New Hampshire and Madison, eventually moving back to Marquette, where they would raise a family. Larry’s career was as diverse as his interests; he worked for a Volkswagen parts supplier in Ann Arbor, Eastern Mountain Sports in New Hampshire, a Sears Call Center in Madison and finally found his calling at Marquette General Hospital/UP Health System in Marquette. There, he served as the Technical Services Support supervisor for 27 years, using his outstanding customer service and technical skills to help others and make a difference in his community.

Larry’s hobbies were a reflection of his multifaceted personality. He had a deep love for researching his ancestry, immersing himself in music, and following Formula One racing. He enjoyed spending time at camp, savoring a good gin martini, and was an avid reader. Larry loved the time he spent with his family, driving his Alfa Romeo, and indulging in his love for all things history, particularly Upper Peninsula and World War II history. His kind and generous spirit and easy going attitude made him beloved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Larry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca, and their children, Katrina Tavernini of Minneapolis, MN, and Adam Tavernini of Marquette. He cherished them both deeply and had a special, unique bond with each. He also leaves behind his mother, Marjory Tavernini of Marquette; his sisters, Allyssa (John) Anderson and Mary (Kevin) Dowling, both of Marquette; and his brother, John Tavernini of Marquette. His brother-in-law, Tom (Gretchen) Robinson of Marquette, along with their children, Nick Willman of Marquette and Maddie McDonnell, of California. His life was further enriched by his niece, Tara (Ryan) Korslin of Green Bay, WI; and his nephew, Patrick Dowling of Marquette.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, as well as his father-in-law, William Robinson, and mother-in-law, Glenda Robinson. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his legacy of kindness and his spirit of generosity will continue to inspire and guide us.

Larry Tavernini was an all-around great guy, a beacon of warmth and kindness in the lives of his family and friends. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories, music and laughter he shared with those around him.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Presque Isle Pavilion in Marquette. Those wishing to honor the memory of Larry with a donation are encouraged to support Beacon House or the Marquette Regional History Center.
