Charles Nora
ISHPEMING, MI – Charles P. “Chuck” Nora, age 65, of 458 W. Empire St. Ishpeming, MI, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, while in the loving care of his family at Aurora Bay Care Hospital in Green Bay, WI.
Charles was born in Ishpeming on April 28, 1959, a son of Jeannine L. (Prideaux) Nora of Negaunee and the late Peter D. Nora. He grew up in Negaunee and was a graduate of the Negaunee High School, Class of 1977 and held several jobs around Negaunee in his younger years. He furthered his education at the Ohio Institute of Technology, receiving an electronic technician’s diploma.
Chuck spent 13 years in Florida where he worked for Digital Products. Upon his return to this area he held some transitional jobs, became circulations manager for the Mining Journal for 5 years and then 14 years with Government Payment Services. In recent years he had worked for Midwest Securities at the local CCI mines.
Chuck loved to sing and was a member of the Negaunee Male Chorus and its barbershop quartet known as the “Close Shaves”. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he sang in the Church Choir and the Ecumenical Concert Choir, and attended Wesley United Methodist Church with his wife Nancy. He was an animal lover, especially of dogs who all seemed to be attracted to him. Chuck enjoyed playing softball in his younger years, in fast-pitch and slow-pitch leagues.
Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, reading, camping, especially the family camp on Helen Lake. While in Florida he was active in SCUBA diving and had 224 saltwater dives. Family time was essential in his life, following his children, grandchildren and extended families activities and events. He always found time to keep up on the Miners and Hematites, along with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Bucks and anything U of M. Chuck had written articles while in Florida for the Florida SCUBA news, and locally for Michigan Outdoor Times.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Nancy B. (Oja) Nora of Ishpeming, daughter, Jaclyn (Ethan) LeSage and son, Seth Nora both of Little Chute, WI, brother, Peter (Betty) Nora of Ishpeming, two sisters, Sarah “Sally” (Tim) Barrette and Marcia (Perry) Hicks both of Negaunee, grandchildren, Lydia and Quinn LeSage, uncle and aunt Ray and Kay Prideaux of WI, along with several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, a brother-in-law, Earl Oja and sister-in-law, Julie Soderberg.
A Celebration of Chuck’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Teal Lake Lodge in Ishpeming from 1:00 – 4:00PM where memories will be shared, music will be played and dessert will be served.
