Gary Dauphinais

MARQUETTE, MI – Gary Lloyd Dauphinais, age 75, a lifelong resident of Marquette, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, at home in the loving care of his family and caregivers at UP Home Health and Hospice.

Born on May 4, 1949, a son of Lloyd and Dorothy (Carlson) Dauphinais, Gary’s life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his country, and the great outdoors.

After graduating from Marquette Senior High School in 1967, Gary answered the call of duty and served in the United States Navy from July 1967 until his honorable discharge in July 1971. His time in the service instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his life. Upon returning to civilian life, Gary pursued his passion for craftsmanship by attending carpenter school, which led to a fulfilling career in the Maintenance Department at Marquette General Hospital.

Gary was not only dedicated to his profession, but also to his role as a father. He lovingly raised his daughter, Rachelle.

Retirement in 2005 allowed Gary more time to indulge in the activities he cherished. He took great pride in the camp he built on Lake Independence, a tranquil retreat where he spent countless hours fishing and hunting. The quiet sanctuary of nature was a perfect match for Gary’s contemplative spirit.

Known for being a man of few words, Gary’s presence was nonetheless profound. He was an attentive listener, a selfless helper, and a pillar of strength for those around him. His actions spoke volumes of his character, always putting the needs of others before his own. Gary’s kindness and generosity extended beyond his immediate circle, touching the lives of many in the community.

As a loving father and grandfather, Gary’s legacy lives on through his daughter, Rachelle (Stuart) Maki of Marquette, life long partner, Debbie Croschere, Debbie’s children, Shannon and Crush Croschere. His cherished grandchildren, Britny Feltner, Chris (Morgan) Bourgeois, and Logan (Hannah) Feltner. The joy of his later years was further amplified by the arrival of his great-grandson, Parker Bourgeois. Gary also leaves behind his sister, Patti (Gale) Lacosse, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will miss his gentle guidance and unwavering support.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will be honored and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to feel the warmth of his quiet strength.

Gary’s life was a journey of steadfast love, humble service, and quiet contemplation. As we bid farewell to a man who embodied the virtues of patience, loyalty, and resilience, we are reminded of the impact one individual can have on the world around them. Gary Lloyd Dauphinais will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
