Sandra Adrian Quinnell

MARQUETTE, MI – Sandra Adrian Quinnell, age 89, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Mission Point of Ishpeming.
Born July 24, 1934, in Racine, Wisconsin, a daughter of James and Alice Dyer, Sandra was raised in Marquette, where she graduated from Graveraet High School. She continued her education at Northern Michigan University pursuing a degree in teaching, later earning her Master’s Degree in Library Science. In 1955, Sandra married Robert Wester and began her teaching career in Milford, Michigan. Six years later, she returned to Marquette and began teaching at the K.I. Sawyer Elementary School until her retirement. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years. In her leisure, Sandra was actively involved with the Lake Superior Art Association and Art on the Rocks. In retirement, she devoted much of her time to fundraising and promoting local libraries.
In 1978, she married Ed Quinnell. A few years later, upon the death of her sister, Donna, she and Ed took her niece Amy and nephew Carl into their home.
She and Ed enjoyed entertaining at their home and camp on Lake Kawbawgam. They also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips in the States and Europe. Sandy especially enjoyed studying the French language and practicing abroad.
Survivors include her son, Rick Wester; nephew, Carl (Chele) Black; grandchildren, Jason Wester and Brian Wester; great-granddaughter, Kirsten Wester; great-great-grandson, Lane Milner; step-sons, Steven E. Quinnell, Bruce A. (Lynn) Quinnell, and Timothy C. (Francella) Quinnell; step-grandchildren, Amanda (Joey) Wartenbe, Stephanie (Audrey) Quinnell, Scott Quinnell, Nicholas (Desiree) Leigh, Jeremy (Brandie) Leigh, Paul (Jena) Quinnell, David (Jennifer) Quinnell, Zachary (Katie) Quinnell, and Nicholas Quinnell; many nieces and nephews. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Donna Black and Judy Denton; niece, Amy (Andy) Harju; and husband, Edward Quinnell.
A celebration of life will be held next summer.
