Kathy Ramsey

MARQUETTE, MI – Kathy Jean Ramsey, 59, of Marquette, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday morning, April 13th, 2023, at Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN, with loving family at her side.

Kathy was born on May 19th, 1963, in Harbor Beach, MI, to John E. and Jean E. (Marra) Carter. She was a graduate of Munising High School, attended Central Michigan University, and earned her registered nursing degree from Kennesaw Community College in Georgia. She began her RN career at Munising Memorial Hospital and worked at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee, MI, at the time of her illness. Kathy worked diligently as a nurse, always going above and beyond for both patients and co-workers alike.

Kathy was as kind as they come and lived her life in service to others. She served as a trusted person to share life’s joys and hardships with and possessed the ability to make life lighter. Her advice was frequently sought after and well received by those close to her. Kathy was very dependable and could always be counted on to show up when needed, no matter the time of day. She was able to bring humor into situations where her smile was the remedy. Her laughter was contagious, and once she started, it wasn’t uncommon for everyone around to end up with the giggles. Kathy was a brave, strong, and compassionate person whose words and actions aligned. The way in which she lived her life would be difficult to emulate, but even an attempt in doing so, would result in the benefit for those who try.

At the center of Kathy’s life was her family and she cherished the time she spent with them. She prioritized and loved each and every member so incredibly well. She was a devoted mother and grandma. Along with her family, she enjoyed walks along Lake Superior, leisurely bike rides, traveling, board games with grandkids, music, and movies. She loved all animals and was never shy about bringing home another pet: dog, cat, bunny, bird, or horse. Her favorite animal of all time was her Tennessee Walker horse, Red. She spent many joyful hours riding and teaching her grandchildren how to ride, too! Kathy enjoyed hot summer days, gardening, berry picking, and spending time in the water. In the winter, she liked to ski and snowmobile. She cherished large family gatherings and loved decorating for each holiday. Her favorite was Christmas.

Kathy’s faith in God was strong. She always trusted His plan and believed paths in life were paved according to His will. Her strong faith, as well as, love and support from family and friends helped her cope with her recent illness. Kathy was an instrumental part in so many people’s lives. There are no words to adequately describe the peace, joy, kindness, and fun she brought to those who knew her. Nobody can ever take her place. She is so missed.

Kathy is survived by her parents, John and Jean Carter of Michigamme, MI; long-time beloved partner, David Pesola of Marquette; four children, Michael (Dena) Ramsey of Munising, Kelsey (Kevin) Wright of Marquette, Paul (Molly Baij) Ramsey of Munising, and Lauren (Tyler) Monroe of Marquette; her children’s father, William Ramsey Jr. of Munising; six grandchildren, Jasmine Ramsey, Gracelyn, Jace and Evelyn Wright, Kahlan and Quinn Ramsey; siblings, Pam (Perry Kaiser) Carter of Marquette, John (Juli) Carter of Alpharetta, GA and Jeff Carter of Corpus Christi, TX and her Godparents, Helyn and Bob LaFreniere of Bellbrook, OH.

A private graveside service will be held in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
