MARQUETTE, MI – Wendy Maxine Wirtanen, 76, of Marquette, died peacefully Friday, March 17th, 2023, at her home, with her family by her side and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
She was born November 3rd, 1946, in Marquette, a daughter of the late Maxim and Florence (Martin) Brisson and kept them on their toes. She was a 1966 graduate of Marquette Senior High School. She enjoyed many adventures with her family throughout her life.
Maxine married Gilbert Wirtanen in 1966 and together they raised their twin daughters, Shelly and Kelly. The couple divorced, yet remained friends.
In 1982, Maxine and her daughters moved to Colorado where she worked at the Holiday Inn and Denver Airport.
When she retired, she moved to her dream house in the mountains. She eventually moved back to Marquette to be by her family.
She enjoyed spending her time at camp and showing up at the campground with a car load of friends. She brought laughter and joy wherever she was. She also loved spending time with her brother-in-law, Mike Wirtanen and James Somers at Carp River Gardens along with her own flower & vegetable gardens. She loved her dogs and four legged grand-fur babies.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Shelly & Kelly; nieces and nephews, Colleen Pascoe, Cindy, Ronald and Steve Brisson, Mark and David; special great-nephew, Erik Grawien and very special friends, Pam Jumisko and Kris Laine and great-nieces and nephews, they all had a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
She will be truly missed by all family and friends she has met throughout her years.
Honoring Maxine’s wishes, no services will be held.
