MUNISING, MI – Anita Del (Duncan) Hulse, age 82, of Munising, died Sunday afternoon, September 5, 2021, at Medilodge in Munising. She was born on May 29, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to Elwood and Glenys (Tiepel) Duncan, and raised by her grandparents; Richard and Gladys Arno. Anita graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1957 and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Toledo School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio in 1961. While she was working at Toledo Hospital she met Robert Clark Hulse, M.D. and they were married on October 24th, 1964. In 1965, the couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they lived until 1986. While in Las Vegas, Anita perfected her skills in nursing at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital as a Charge Nurse working in the Obstetrics Department and the Emergency Room, just to name a few. Anita continued her love of learning by attending the University of Las Vegas and earning her Masters of Arts (MBA) in Chinese History in 1986. Anita was a woman to be admired, as she was by so many people. She was incredibly witty, very intelligent, and left a lasting impression on anyone she came in contact with. Although living in Las Vegas, Anita and Bob never lost their love for the Midwest, which was evident by their lush desert backyard. From fruit trees, to the vast variety of flowers and plants, to the Koi pond, their backyard was always green and Anita’s love of gardening was ever present; Anita especially loved her rose garden. Anita definitely had a green thumb, and no matter where she lived, her house was always full of plants. While in Las Vegas, Anita and Robert also bred and showed Old English Sheepdogs and Cardigan Welsh Corgis, many of which reached Grand Champion status. Anita had a love of ceramics and pottery, and even created her own pottery on her pottery wheel; she was a yellow belt in karate, and was an expert shooter. Anita and Bob had many friends, joined weekly bowling leagues, and it wasn’t uncommon for the Hulse’s to host a card game on Saturday nights. After Bob’s retirement in 1986, the Hulse family relocated to Munising, building their dream home on Lake Superior in AuTrain, Michigan. This beautiful home housed many holidays, family occasions, and wonderful memories. Bob and Anita purchased Iverson Snowshoe Company, where after Bob’s death April 16, 1989, Anita continued to own and operate until 2007. During Anita’s tenure, she was able to gain the interest of L.L. Bean, in which Iverson’s wood-framed snowshoes, furniture, and fish nets were sold in their international catalog. Anita was a very accomplished woman, and one of her many honors was as an enrollee in the Alger County Women’s Roll of Honor Roll. She was recognized as a woman that led an enriched life through work, hobbies, volunteerism and everyday living. Anita had many hobbies, from crafting and painting with her daughter’s Heidi and Jamie, to reading historical fiction, to gardening. Anita had an enormous heart and a tendency to rescue any cat that decided her home was where they wanted to be. She had a multitude of bird feeders, and when they weren’t being pillaged by the local raccoons and squirrels, she would enjoy watching the birds while sitting in her recliner. Anita loved watching cooking shows, biblical history, old John Wayne movies, and was especially fond of The Lord of the Rings trilogy; Anita had many layers. Anita loved her family, and was always there to pick them up, or be the world’s greatest cheerleader. Anita never missed an event in which her children participated and was always the loudest voice in the bleachers. Anita was a sounding board and a shoulder to cry on; Anita always gave the best advice.
