RAYMOND STANAWAY
NEGAUNEE, MI – Raymond G. Stanaway, “Ray”, loving husband, Dad, Papa, Pops, and Ford parts man, age 59, of 645 County Road, passed away unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack, on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Raymond was born in Ishpeming on December 21, 1957 to the late Mervyn and Ruth (Hautamaki) Stanaway. He graduated from Negaunee High School in 1976 and he married Shelly Kangas on July 1, 1978. Ray was the “go to” parts man at Hooper Stanaway Ford and presently at Fox Marquette. He enjoyed all the simple things in life; spending time at Helen Lake, Detroit sports, all auto racing (Ford), and music, especially Bob Seger. He always had a smile on his face and his grandchildren meant the world to him. Once you met him, you had a friend for life.
Surviving are his loving wife; Shelly, son; Jason (Emily) Stanaway of Negaunee, two daughters; Becky (Jeff) Clark of Ishpeming, and Ashley (Sean) Symons of Negaunee, four grandchildren; Eli, Travis, Calvin and Ayla, four brothers; Mervyn “Butch” of Negaunee, Donald (Rose) of Ishpeming, David of Negaunee, and Brian Stanaway of Ishpeming, and one sister; Patricia Seppala of Ishpeming. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Kenneth, and two brother in laws; Matti Seppala and Calvin Kangas.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2017 at Community Lutheran Church of Suomi Location at 6:00pm with Rev. Douglas Norquist officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 3:00pm until the time of the service. Pallbearers will be Scott Couture, Scott Smith, Steve Schaffer, Brad Heinzman, Sandy Thorne and Keith Millimaki.
Refreshments will be served at the Richmond Township Hall following the service.
