Nov. 8, Florida election recount begins

MARQUETTE, MI- Erwin J. Holliday, Jr., 91, of Marquette, died Monday, October 28, 2024, at his home.

He was born April 14, 1933, in Boston Township, Ionia County, Michigan, a son of the late Irwin J. and Violet (Schrier) Holliday.

Erwin served in the US Navy and was a Korean War veteran.

Following his return from the service, Erwin worked on a General Motors assembly line where he met his future wife, Phyllis Miller. The couple married on May 28, 1955 in Lansing, MI.

Erwin then took a job as a switchman for Bell Telephone Company and relocated to Marquette where he was employed for 36 years until his retirement in 1993.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Handyman Club. His interests included taxidermy, gunsmithing, hunting, fishing and recently wood turning.

Erwin is survived his children, Erwin John “Doc” (Jean) Holliday III of Ishpeming and Penny Jean Holliday of Marquette; grandchildren, John Richard Holliday of Marquette, John Henry “Hank” Holliday Prescott Valley, AZ, William Anthony (Holly) Holliday of Dubuque, IA; great-grandchildren, Harper, Holden, Huxley and Hudson; sisters, Jerry Lou Womack of Texas and Janet LaSure of Missouri; and nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irwin J. and Violet; wife, Phyllis; sister, Judy Hemstreet; and son, Richard Alex Holliday.

Honoring Erwin’s wishes, there will be no services.
