IM school board gets visit from seventh grade robotics team

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain High School Robotics team gave a presentation to the school board and demonstrated how their robot — Goldberg — works.

The team, called the Gold Diggers, is comprised of seventh graders.

Coach Tim Tachick said he is proud of this team of younger students who compete against older students.

Team members do all the work on the robot and all the programming for tasks it completes during matches. They compete as part of FIRST in Michigan and went to matches in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie.

“They work very hard against high school students competing against other teams,” he said.

Team members said it has helped them with critical thinking, listening to direction, learning to work together and compromise, and adapting to change. It also fostered friendships.
