Sewer overflow addressed

MARQUETTE — As part of Michigan regulations, local units of government are required to notify the local paper in the event of a sanitary sewer overflow.

On Feb.11, at about 3 p.m., a sanitary sewer overflow was noted at 2634 W. Fair Ave. in Marquette Township. Staff arrived on scene and began working on a broken grinder pump service line.

It’s believed a frost heave caused the break. Discharge ended around noon on Feb. 12. It is estimated that 200 gallons of sewage was discharged during this time. Marquette Township performed clean up duties and mitigated the affected area by applying powdered lime.

No surface waters were impacted. Both Michigan EGLE and the Marquette County Health Department were notified.

Starting at $4.62/week.
