Tai Chi for Diabetes set

MARQUETTE — Michigan State University Extension is offering free Tai Chi for Diabetes, a 10-session program starting March 4 and going through May 6.

This online program will be at 8 a.m. central/9 a.m. eastern time and is a great way to start your day. Tai Chi for Diabetes is for all people, with or without diabetes. These tai chi moves help to improve our health, balance, immunity, ability to be relax and to have a better quality of life.

Sharing this curriculum of slow gentle movement will support:

≤ Increases strength

≤ Increases balance and posture

≤ Prevents falls

≤ Improves mind, body, and spirit

≤ Reduces stress and increases relaxation

Tai Chi for Diabetes is led by a certified instructor, with each session including:

≤ Warm-up and cool-down exercises

≤ One or two movements per lesson, progressively leading to completing six basic core movements and six advanced extension movements

≤ Breathing techniques

≤ Tai chi principles relating to improving physical and mental balance

Modifications will be provided for those who want to attend seated or standing. This program is targeted to help older adults and older adults with disabilities at risk for fall stay active. Participants must have audio and video capabilities to participate for safety.
