COPPER HARBOR — The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board has approved a funding package of $1.85 million to buy park property near the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The trust fund board approves an annual list of projects to be included in the program, which in addition to land acquisition, also provides for development grants like one totaling $60,000 recommended for Ishpeming. This year, the grant would pay for the development of a swimming beach on Lake Teal. Of the 61 projects state-wide, the U.P. has six totaling $6.72 million. Of note is the Fork Wilkins State Park project, which involves acquiring 2,000 acres, which would significantly change the parks boundaries.
