MARQUETTE — The first of a series of covered walkways on Northern Michigan University’s campus is taking shape between the first floor of Gries Hall and the Bottum University Center. Unlike other covered walkways planned and proposed for the campus, this $600,000, 260-foot walkway is elevated on cement pylons. Its completion is expected in February. Bruce Raudio, director of facilities for NMU, said Gries Hall itself is undergoing a $3.6 million renovation from a dormitory to faculty offices and should be finished in January.
