MARQUETTE — Celebrating its 20th year of turning ordinary students into lovers of writing and illustrating, the Young Authors program is constantly looking to expand its operations. This year, the group is expecting students from many of the Marquette and Alger county school districts to attend its annual reading conference at Northern Michigan University.

MARQUETTE — An unusual Nativity scene will be presented Sunday evening in front of the Messiah Lutheran Church, W. Magnetic St., by members of the Messiah Luther League. The league, a high school group, will be the “figures” in the live Nativity scene each evening Sunday through Thursday, from 6 until 7:30. Members of the league decided to carry out the plans of their pastor, the Rev. J. Otto Magnuson, who was preparing the scene’s enactment at the time of his death this week.
