IRON MOUNTAIN — A state panel recommended Wednesday that Dickinson County receive an estimated $396,000 grant to expand the Fumee Lake Natural Area. The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board, meeting in Lansing, voted unanimously to approve the county’s application for the purchase of 938 acres north of Fumee Lake. “I’m very pleased,” said Lucy Shampo, who chairs the Fumee Lake Commission. Shampo attended Wednesday’s session and spoke in support of the county’s application, which las year was rejected by the state board.
