Co-op holiday programs happening now

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Food Co-op has two holiday donation programs running in the month of December that they would like to invite shoppers to participate in.

The annual “Round Up at the Register” campaign to raise money for the United Way of Marquette County has a goal to raise $5,000 to benefit local community organizations. Throughout the holiday season, cashiers will be asking customers to round their shopping total to the next full dollar, with proceeds directly benefiting local programs and services supported by the United Way. Donations will be collected through Dec. 31.

“United Way is here to serve our community and to keep it strong,” said Andrew Rickauer, executive director of United Way of Marquette County. “We serve about 33 percent of the county population with generous support from the community. This year the need is greater than ever before, and every donation stays local to help those in need in our community.”

The second holiday program at the MFC this year is the Women’s Center Holiday Donation Program. In this program, the MFC collects gifts for the residents at the Women’s Center Harbor House. There are many wonderful donation programs that provide necessities, but self-care during times of stress is important too. Community members are invited to bring gifts that bring comfort, relaxation, and peace to shelter residents. Items such as body care products, pajamas, journals, chocolates, and journals are all great gifts. You can find other ideas at the MFC website. Donations are accepted until Dec. 18.

“As an organization dedicated to protecting and empowering survivors of domestic and sexual violence, we know that every step forward is a testament to the power of compassion and community. Together, we can turn hope into action and ensure that everyone has the chance to heal, rebuild, and thrive,” said Jennine Frazier, executive director of The Women’s Center.

Starting at $4.62/week.
