HANCOCK — Radio station WMPL/WZRK in Hancock will increase its signal strength after the first of the year. The station will jump to 25,000 watts, making it the first station in the Copper Country to increase power to that level. The increase in power will mean a cleaner sound that will carry over a greater distance.

MARQUETTE — Laughs, thrills and just plain good family-type sports and variety entertainment are on tap tonight at 8:30 when the world-famed original Harlem Globetrotters present their 1964-65 all-star show at the Northern Michigan University Fieldhouse. General admission tickets will go on sale at 6 p.m., according to F.L. (Frosty) Ferzacca, NMU athletic director. The Harlem Globetrotters take on the New York Nationals complete with trick shots, fancy dribbling and passing, the multitalented Bob “Showboat” Hall as the focal point, and such trotters as J.C. Gipson, Bobby Milton, Mel Davis, Leroy Gibson, Daves Gaines, Doug Himes and Manny Oliver. Pacing the Nationals will be former All- American Troy Collier, three-year AAU star Tike Karavas, all-army selection Bom Combs, player-coach Bob Stoermer, and Pat Patterson, former Bowling Green Standout. Collier, Stoermer and Patterson stand 6-8. Before the game and between halves, impressario Abe Saperstein will present five international variety features. Providing the entertainment will be the Farias troupe in several acts of acrobatic prowess; delightful “Squeeky” Parry on the trampoline; the thrilling and funny acrobatic presentation of the Jovers from England; brilliant batonist GuyAllan, and the wizard of the accordion, Frank Martino. Martino, incidentally, has beenmentioned as the possible lead for a movie on the life of accordionist Dick Contino. The Trotters, who appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show last month following their European tour, have played in 87 countries on six continents. The Trotters sustained their last defeat during the 1961-62 season when they dropped the final of a 15-game series to a team of professional and college stars at Denver, Colo. Since then, they have racked up more than 800 consecutive victories including numerous last-minute thrillers.
