St. Vincents working hard
MARQUETTE — The St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, which in the past fiscal year provided food assistance for 3,556 families and a total of 8,365 individuals, recently received a site visit from Bailey Lewis, an Upper Peninsula agency specialist on behalf of Feeding America West Michigan.
In a summary, Ms. Lewis stated that she “Monitored in person with Bob Barton (St. Vincent de Paul pantry manager) on 11/7/2024. We went through their storage space, which is quite large. They do distribution 4x a week and also offer other forms of assistance. Everything was well organized and very clean, temp logs were being kept and records are being kept as well. No compliance concerns whatsoever. They are doing holiday distributions for clothing, food, and toys… They have a great volunteer base. Bob also told me how the TV6 Canathon works for them and I may come and visit when they start organizing the donations in December. Bob said they 8,000 lbs. last year! Nothing to follow up on. They are doing a great job!”
Please note: Ms. Lewis referenced the holiday distributions. During the 2023 St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Program:
≤ 332 families received turkeys and all the trimmings for a complete Christmas dinner.
≤ Toys and clothing were provided for 317 children.
