Choral performances cited

MARQUETTE — Marquette Choral Society will present winter-themed concerts at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7; and 3 p.m. Dec. 8, in the Reynolds Recital Hall at Northern Michigan University. General admission is $10 and $5 for children under 12.

The featured work will be John Rutter’s “Magnificat,” with soprano soloist Amanda Boundy and chamber orchestra. Other winter-themed works will include “On a Winter’s Night” by Karen P. Thomas; “Ave Maria” by Javier Busto; “The Rune of Hospitality” by Alf Hakoum; “Winter Suite: Six Songs Without Words, Opus 19…With Words,” based on music by Felix Mendelssohn and text by Laurie Betts Hughes; and “Christmas is Coming” arranged by Mack Wilberg with four-hand piano accompaniment.

Many MCS members also perform one movement of the Rutter “Magnificat” with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra on Dec. 14, at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette. In addition, MCS will lead a Community Christmas Sing-along at 5 p.m. Dec. 20, at St. Michael Catholic Church.
