New at Peter White Public Library
Over the summer we got some great new books! Here are a few of my personal recommendations.
The Girl in Question by Tess Sharpe
In the follow up to The Girls I’ve Been, we meet up with Nora, her girlfriend Iris and best friend Wes after they survive the bank robbery. They are set to take a 10 day backpacking trip up into the mountains after school is out. But life has other plans, Wes’s girlfriend is now tagging along and becomes taken hostage by Nora’s murderous stepfather, who was recently released from prison. Nora, Iris and Wes now must survive their trip and save Wes’s girlfriend before being killed themselves. This fast pace read is a great follow up to the first book.
Sleep Like Death by Kalynn Bayron
Sleep like Death is a classic twist on story of Snow White. Princess Eve is approaching her seventeenth birthday and only has one thing on her mind, to destroy the Knight. The Knight has ruined so many lives with their kingdom, including her own family. Eve has a special power, to conjure weapons from nature, making her a worthy adversary. As her birthday comes closer her mother begins talking to a magic mirror and the truth comes out about Eve’s past. Eve must figure out who to believe and to trust if she is going to save her kingdom and her family. Kaylnn Bayron delivers another great twist on classic fairy tales in this new release.
This Book Won’t Burn by Samira Ahmed
Noor is forced to leave her home in Chicago after her dad up and leaves her family. Starting her last part of Senior year in a small town is hard, but she knows to keep her head down and just graduate. But that is hard when she learns hundreds of books are being removed from the library. She refuses to sit back and do nothing, but soon becomes a target in this small town. Will Noor be able to make a difference in her small town or will something worse happen to her. This book is one of my favorites of the summer!
The Deep Dark by Molly Knox Ostertag
Magdalena (Mag’s for short) is about to graduate high school, but already feels like an adult. Mag’s has a job, cares for the sick grandmother and hides a huge secret, which pulls her into the basement each night and drains her of energy. If not that secret could get out and kill again. Mag’s works hard and keeps to herself, but one a friend from the past comes into town and drags up memories and feelings from years ago. Can Mag’s find a way to live with her secret or will it destroy her. Another great graphic novel from Ostertag about embracing who you really are.
Young Hag and the Witches Quest
It starts with Young Hag, her mother and her grandmother, Ancient Crone, who are the last of witches in Britain from the time of dragons, witches and wizards. After a tragic accident Young Hag is done, turning her back on the Ancient Crone and magic stories until one day she meets a changeling baby and sets off to a quest to bring back magic to Britain. This graphic novel is great for fans of King Arthur stories.
