MARQUETTE — Holding whistle-stop press conferences throughout the state, Attorney General Frank Kelly was in Marquette Tuesday to describe the local implications of a state-wide retail price scanner inaccuracies investigation. The consumer protection investigation found that three retail stores in the greater Marquette area overcharged on a small number of purchases using the popular checkout scanners while a fourth store charged too little. Statewide, investigators visited 42 stores in 13 cities in the Peninsula and three cities in the Upper Peninsula.

MARQUETTE — With interest running unusually high, a sizable number of Marquette County voters is expected to go to the polls in tomorrow’s state primary election. Observers believe over 5,000 persons will cast ballots in Marquette County. If their prediction holds true, the election will draw the largest number of voters in the country for a primary since the 1960 balloting. A turnout of over 5,000 tomorrow would be more than 20 percent of the county electorate balloting.
