New deans at MTU
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech University welcomes three new deans to campus this academic year. Michelle Scherer heads the College of Engineering, David Flaspohler is at the helm of the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Sciences and LaReesa Wolfenbarger leads the College of Sciences and Arts.
All three deans bring a depth and breadth of experience gained through leadership roles in higher education settings and as internationally known researchers who have addressed some of the most pressing contemporary issues affecting the planet.
Flaspohler has spent his entire career at MTU, most recently serving as interim college dean for 21 months. Wolfenbarger comes to MTU from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where she was associate dean of natural sciences and research in the College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to her higher education career, Wolfenbarger worked at the Environmental Protection Agency, Scherer comes to MTU after a 26-year career at the University of Iowa, where she was a distinguished chair and professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
