Asada: The Art of Mexican Style Grilling

By Brica Lopez

Looking to break out of a grilling rut? Asada is for you! While this book offers a delightful amount of marinades and tacos, it is also quite vegetarian friendly. Try the Pipian dip on grilled veggies–or anything really–made from habanero, garlic, red bell pepper, tomatoes, and sourdough bread, then blitzed in a food processor with oil, almonds, salt, and vinegar. Last but never least: the entire chapter on salsa alone is perfection. Brica Lopez runs the famed Los Angeles restaurant Guelaguetza, and is the co author of Oaxaca: Home Cooking From the Heart of Mexico.

15 Minute Meals: Truly Quick Recipes that Don’t Taste Like Shortcuts

By Ali Rosen

Anyone who is frequently disappointed by the repetitive nature of quick-meals cookbooks (me!), will be pleasantly surprised by this innovative collection. The pantry staples Rosen lists are all-stars and, while they can transform a meal, are not hard to find: hot sauce, mint, and feta are prefect on the charred cabbage salad, or a splash of maple syrup to round out a savory ginger beef with broccoli. Some of the recipes even feature a “No Cook” badge, like spicy crab tacos, or basil pea soup. Rosen is also a romance writer, and host of the Emmy Nominated show Potluck.

Sam the Cooking Guy and The Holy Grill

By Sam Zien

It would be easy to skim The Holy Grill, and create a summer cooking bucket list so lengthy that it overlaps into soup season. This collection features solid, clear instructions for setting up smoking and grilling basecamp: savory rubs and tangy sauces, pork ribs three ways, and Korean fire chicken. But there are surprises too: grilled breads–Italian canoe, onion and garlic flatbread–smoked cream cheese, twice smoked sweet potatoes, and soy thyme onions. Zien is the author of 6 other cookbooks, with a focus on maximum flavor and texture for minimal effort.
