Local Airstream rally planned

HARVEY — The Wisconsin-U.P. Airstream Club is hosting a rally at Gitchee Gumee RV Park in Chocolay Township Aug. 1-4, 2024.

Twenty-five Airstreams from Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula will be gathering to share meals, camaraderie, explore waterfalls, visit Benny, the Beardfisher Troll in Germfask, learn about shenanigans of early Marquette and enjoy the beauty of our area.

Opening ceremonies will include a Taco Bar supper, a SkyMed presentation and a presentation by local personality/historian, Jim Koski, about the mischief behind the disappearance of certain Marquette buildings.

There will be a goodwill offering collected to benefit the Trillium House.

On Friday, campers have their choice of tours, either to Lakenenland and up to Big Bay with lunch TBD or the day-long waterfalls tour on the way to Germfask and back.

The group is meeting at The Crossroads Bar and Grill in Sands Township for supper.

The evening wraps up with a beer tasting at the microbrewery at Gitchee Gumee RV Park and a showing of the movie, “The Great Outdoors.”

On Saturday, Aug. 3, activities include a breakfast and tour hosted by the newly opened Airstream of Northern Michigan.

From 1-3:30 p.m., the public is invited to bring their curiosity and tour the personal Airstreams at an Open House at Gitchee Gumee RV Park @ 2048 M-28 East in Chocolay Township.

A cookout/potluck supper will be hosted by soon-to-be Past Region 7 President Ginger Slattery and her first mate, Joe, at their home and will include installation ceremony of Region 7 officers whose 2 year terms begin Aug. 1.

The first Airstream was built in 1931 by Wally Byam and has become a beloved iconic symbol of those who have a sense of adventure and love to travel.
