BIG BAY — Great Lakes Chapter No. 90 of the Telephone Pioneers of America donated $14,000 to Bay Cliff Health Camp for improvements to the dental clinic and health cottage. Comprised of active and retired telephone employees, the Pioneers are the world’s largest industrial service organization. They have volunteered more than 5,000 hours of service to Bay Cliff. Bernie LaBonte, an AT&T retiree, Bill Menhennick, a Michigan Bell retiree, and Larry Kempher of Ameritech presented a check to Tim Bennett, Bay Cliff director.

MARQUETTE — Arrangements are being completed by Miss Berlyene Miller of Negaunee and Forrest Roberts, professor of speech at Northern Michigan University, for the annual high-school Regional Forensic Festival. The Festival will take place Friday and Saturday in both the Little Theater and the Fine and Practical Arts Building at Northern. Events in nine categories will run concurrently in the two locations. There will be 122 contestants from 33 Upper Peninsula schools, all winners of “superior” ratings in district forensic meets held recently. Judges will be Ronald Brown, asst. professor of speech at NMU; Mrs. Martha Laurion, asst. professor of speech at NMU; Don Nelson, head of the department of speech at Petoskey Junior College; John Monsma, asst. professor at Northern; Dr. Emil Pfister, chairman of the department of speech and drama at Central Michigan University, and James Rapport and Forrest Roberts of the local university. The public is invited to attend the Festival.
