MARQUETTE, — The Community Foundation of Marquette County, on behalf of the Huron Mountain Club Fund, distributted $63,454 in grants and awards to nonprofits in Marquette County and surrounding areas.

The recipients for the 2022-2023 fiscal year include the Bay Cliff Health Camp, Powell Township Elementary School, Powell Township EMT, Powell Township Fire Department, Peter White Public Library, Trillium House, Yellow Dog Watershed, Special Olympics and Kids Cove Playground.

According to a MCFMC release, one of its grantees, Marquette’s Peter White Public Library has been serving the community since 1904. The library’s mission is to enrich the community through access to library services and cultural opportunities.

Library Director Andrea Ingmire said PWPL staff appreciates what the Huron Mountain Club Fund has contributed to arts in the area.

“For nearly two decades, the Huron Mountain Club Members have helped to establish Peter White Public Library as an arts champion in Marquette. In 2022, PWPL focused on getting our gallery spaces back on the community’s radar,” Inmire said.

She said one of the library’s main galleries is named for the Huron Mountain Club.

“In addition to having a lineup of diverse exhibits, we’ve been hosting bi-monthly multi-artist receptions, in cooperation with City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture,” she said. “This format gives artists and their exhibits cross-promotion opportunities and those attending can speak with multiple artists in one evening. We greatly appreciate the continued support of the Huron Mountain Club Members and the Community Foundation of Marquette County.”

The Huron Mountain Club Endowment Fund was established at the Community Foundation in 1999. The income from the Endowment Fund is given to organizations based on the recommendation of HMC’s Fund Advisory Committee.

Community Foundation CEO Zosia Eppensteiner said, “Since it was established 24 years ago, the Huron Mountain Club Fund has given back more than $1.1 million in support of nonprofits in Powell Township and Marquette. The Huron Mountain Club has a strong connection to several organizations that serve Big Bay and Marquette, and every year, through their generous giving, they demonstrate their connection to community.”
