MARQUETTE – Multiple storms swept across the U.P. yesterday, and continue into today. Threats of thunderstorms, high winds, hail and tornadoes threatened the upper peninsula and it continues on today.

“Threat of multiple severe weather hazards, the highest chance is going to come in the form of hail and strong winds on the state line,” said Greg Sova, Marquette Weather Service Station meteorologist. “There is a chance of tornadoes. At about 10-15% chance of tornadoes on the state line and 5% elsewhere. We are looking at some heavier rain at an inch of rain particularly where multiple thunderstorms go over the same area. Wide spread its about a half an inch. Flash flooding is not expected to be a threat but spring time local river flooding may be exacerbated by the rain.”

This potential tornado weather is not just contained to the upper peninsula, but the whole of the Midwest. The National Weather Service said the highest risks could be found across multiple sections of Minnesota, including the Minneapolis area, northern Iowa and western Wisconsin. While forecasters expected two rounds of severe weather, the second, in the afternoon and evening, could be the most impactful.
