Area man charged with theft

Brian Parsons
MARQUETTE — Brian Thomas Parsons of Marquette was arraigned Thursday in 96th District Court in Marquette on felony charges of embezzlement by an agent, $1,000-$20,000, authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.
On March 18, Parsons was taken into custody at his Marquette residence. The arrest came at the conclusion of a several-months-long investigation conducted by the Forsyth Township Police Department.
It was determined that Parsons had embezzled several thousand dollars from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5760 in Gwinn. The investigation was initiated by VFW Post 5670’s command staff upon noticing several discrepancies within the VFW post’s financial report.
The information was turned over to the Forsyth Township Police Department for further investigation.
Upon conducting an in-depth review of the post’s financial documents, records and accounts, the investigation substantiated that Parsons, who had been volunteering at the VFW post 5670, had embezzled several thousand dollars over the course of multiple years while overseeing the finances as part of his duties.
The Forsyth Township Police Department was assisted by the Marquette City Police Department and personnel at the VFW Post 5670.
