MARQUETTE — At 7 p.m. on Monday, March 31, “Saturday Night Live” alumna Rachel Dratch will visit Northern Michigan University’s Northern Center Grand Ballroom for a conversation hosted by NMU student organization Platform Personalities.
“Attending the Rachel Dratch event is a unique opportunity to hear firsthand about her journey in comedy, from ‘Saturday Night Live’ to her broader career in entertainment,” said Rachel Harris, director of NMU’s Center for Student Enrichment and faculty advisor for Platform Personalities. “Expect an engaging and entertaining conversation filled with humor and stories about her experiences.”
Dratch worked on SNL as a comedian, actress and writer for seven years, and is best known for her series of Debbie Downer sketches. Her other work includes a plethora of film, TV and theater roles; most recently she has worked as a voice actress for animated TV shows “Harley Quinn” and “Mulligan,” and in 2022 was nominated for the Tony Award for best featured actress in a play for her role in the production “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive.” Her memoir “Girl Walks into a Bar” was published in 2012, and recounts her lifetime of experience in the comedy business.
This event will be the latest of successful talks put on by NMU’s Platform Personalities. Other notable figures featured by the organization in recent years include author John Green, NFL player R.K. Russell and musician Ross Lynch.
Tickets are available at the university ticket office website and cost $5 each for the general public. NMU student tickets are free. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
