Police: Man charged with resisting, obstructing had loaded handgun
MARQUETTE — At approximately 7:45 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Marquette Police Department were dispatched to a report of malicious destruction of property at Picnic Rocks.
Upon speaking with the victim, an officer determined that a suspect damaged a vehicle and fled the scene. The victim reported that he’d been approached and threatened in an aggressive manner by this same suspect at Presque Isle about two weeks ago.
At approximately 8:15 a.m., officers located the suspect walking near Seventh and Bluff streets. The suspect was approached by police before fleeing on foot.
The suspect was caught and resisted arrest, requiring force to restrain him. A search of the suspect revealed a loaded concealed handgun, firearm magazines loaded with ammunition and a large knife.
The suspect was arrested for resisting and obstructing police, and weapons — carrying a concealed weapon.
Additional charges are being sought for felonious assault and malicious destruction of personal property.
The suspect was lodged in the Marquette County Jail and his name is being withheld pending arraignment. The motive for the suspect’s actions remains unknown and seemed unprovoked, police said. There is no current threat to public safety.
Marquette police are currently investigating similar acts that were perpetrated by the same suspect within the past month, including felonious assault.
Those with additional information should call Detective Lt. Mike Archocosky at the Marquette Police Department at 906-225-8930.
