Gwinn man arrested following assault
Police: Handgun found at scene
MARQUETTE — A Gwinn man was arrested Tuesday for multiple felony offenses including first degree home invasion; assault with a dangerous weapon; felony firearm, assault causing great bodily harm; aggravated domestic violence; and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
At about 11:10 p.m. Monday, Michigan State Police troopers from the Negaunee post and Eighth District Headquarters responded to a report of a domestic violence incident at a residence on Bomarc Street in West Branch Township.
Following the troopers’ arrival, it was discovered that a 31-year-old man had physically assaulted his significant other, who had managed to escape from the residence.
The suspect was reported to have a firearm in his possession. Troopers first saw the suspect on the porch of the residence. Troopers issued commands to the suspect, but he ignored them and ran back inside the house.
MSP Emergency Support Team personnel responded to assist. The suspect eventually complied with troopers’ commands, came out of the house and was safely taken into custody.
Further investigation resulted in the seizure of a pistol.
The firearm was not believed to have been discharged during the incident. However, the firearm was alleged to have been used in the commission of the assaults.
The suspect was lodged in the Marquette County Jail. The suspect’s name is not being released pending arraignment.
The victim is reported to be in stable condition after she was transported to and received treatment at UPHS-Marquette in Marquette.
MSP was assisted by the Forsyth Township Police Department, UPHS EMS and Forsyth Township EMS.
