Downstate man killed in Alger snowmobile crash

AuTRAIN — At approximately 3:20 p.m. Monday, the Alger County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a severe snowmobile accident on Trail #8 near Autrain Camp Road in Autrain Township of Alger County.

The Alger County Sheriff’s deputies, Alger County EMS, Alger County Rescue “21” and the Michigan State Police responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, a 61-year-pold male from Edwardsburg, Michigan, was discovered unresponsive and was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

It was determined that the victim failed to negotiate a curve in the trail as he left the main portion of the trail and was ejected from the snowmobile into several trees.

Excessive speed is believed to be the main factor in the crash. Alcohol was determined not to be a factor.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and the victim’s name is being withheld pending the conclusion of the investigation.
