ONTONAGON — Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in a fatal Ontonagon County snowmobile crash that caused the death of a 36-year-old Wisconsin man late Friday night.
Negaunee Regional Dispatch was notified shortly after 11 p.m. Friday of a personal injury accident on Trail #3 near Federal Forest Road 730 and U.S. 45 in Stannard Township.
Deputies from the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene where they located the crash victim, who was visiting the area from Bonduel, Wisconsin.
Emergency medical services personnel initiated life-saving measures, but the snowmobiler was pronounced dead a short while later.
The crash remains under investigation.
SONCO South Ambulance Service, Bruce Crossing Fire Department, Ontonagon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Cane Funeral Home and Lake Gogebic Towing assisted at the scene.
