MARQUETTE — Some things in life we wish would never end, but when they do we can choose to celebrate what once was.

Artists, those who appreciate creativity and even folks who just enjoy a summer stroll along city sidewalks, will have an opportunity in June to celebrate a decade of Art Week in Marquette at the final installment of the event.

The city of Marquette Arts and Culture Center announced the end to Art Week in a press release, describing it as “a dynamic festival showcasing the creative depth of Marquette’s arts community.”

Among the nearly 500 artists who have shared their creative gifts at Art Week throughout the years are musicians, dancers, painters, sculptors and jewelry makers.

The theme of this final Art Week will be “Stories.” Participants are welcome to revisit past Art Week projects to honor the festival’s legacy.

Financial assistance of up to $400 funded by the Michigan Arts & Culture Council is available for some projects.

When Art Week becomes a thing of the past, the culture center plans to focus on “year-round efforts that build deeper, more lasting connections and better integrate arts and culture into the fabric of daily life,” according to a press release for this year’s event.

The city of Marquette 10th annual Art Week is scheduled to take place June 23-28. Art Week is free to enjoy for all who wish to attend.
