Missing MTU student found dead

HOUGHTON — Michigan Technological University’s Department of Public Safety and Police Services located the body of Matthew Sisson, a 36-year-old graduate student who was reported missing on Friday. Police have determined that no foul play is suspected, and did not reveal when or where the body was found.
The university said in a news release that the community’s thoughts are with Sisson’s family during this difficult time. The MTU Center for Student Mental Health and Well-being is available for students impacted by Sisson’s loss who may need support.
Public Safety and Police Services would like to thank the public for their assistance in this search. Out of respect for the family, there will be no more comments made at this time.
On Saturday, Michigan Technological University’s Department of Public Safety and Police Services requested the public’s assistance in locating Sisson.
Matthew was last in contact with family on the morning of Feb. 11, when he mentioned he would be heading to Walmart. Despite extensive searches conducted by Michigan Tech’s Public Safety team in collaboration with local law enforcement, Sisson’s whereabouts were unknown until Monday.
