Two killed in head-on collision
M-35 in Forsyth Township closed for several hours Friday
GWINN — Two adults were killed Friday after a head-on collision on M-35 in Fortsyth Township Friday afternoon. Three teenagers also sustained injuries in the crash.
Police say that a 37-year-old Gwinn man and a 21-year-old Negaunee man were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that took place just before 4 p.m. Friday near Little Lake. Three freshman boys from Gwinn schools were injured in the crash, according to a letter sent by Gwinn Area Schools Superintendent Sara Croney.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share news of a tragic traffic accident that occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, . … involving members of our school community. A devastating car accident has claimed the life of a beloved parent and left three of our ninth grade boys injured. Two have been airlifted to Milwaukee for care, one remains in Marquette. Thankfully, we have been informed that the students are now in stable condition,” the letter said. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of those affected by this unimaginable loss. As a close-knit community, we stand together in support of the loved ones grieving during this difficult time.”
The names of the victims involved in the crash have yet to be released.
According to Croney’s letter, support staff and guidance counselors will be at Gwinn schools today to comfort and assist students, faculty and families.
Police have said little about this incident. In addition to MSP, several local agencies were reported at the scene, including Marquette County Sheriff’s Office personnel and officers from the Forsyth Township Police Department.
