Ishpeming man facing intent to murder charge

ISHPEMING — A 30-year-old Ishpeming man is facing an intent to murder charge after an alleged assault on New Year’s Eve.

Zachary Adam Lewis was arraigned in Marquette County District Court Thursday. He is being charged with assault with intent to murder following his arrest Tuesday morning.

According to an Ishpeming Police Department press release, a 56-year-old man was struck in the head with a meat tenderizer. Police were sent to 551 Jasper St. at approximately 2:40 a.m. Tuesday in response to the assault.

After investigating the incident, Lewis was arrested after being treated for a self-inflicted injury.

Lewis is being lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

His bond is set at $500,000 and he is due in court for a preliminary exam on Jan. 23.
