Christmas tree disposal areas offered in Marquette County

MARQUETTE — Local municipalities have some options for residents looking to discard their Christmas trees.

Through Thursday, there will be two drop-off sites available for Christmas tree disposal in Marquette. One site is located at the west end of the Lakeview Arena parking lot, 401 E. Fair Ave. Trees should be placed inside the orange fencing. The other site is located at Hurley Field, 240 Mesnard St. Again, trees should be placed inside the orange fencing.

Residents are to remove all decorations and stands before disposing of their tree.

Properties that pay a solid waste fee on their monthly bills are eligible to use the Christmas tree drop-off sites. Owners and tenants of properties not paying the fee should contact their regular waste hauler for service. These sites are supported by fees, not taxes, according to Marquette officials.

In Negaunee, there is a drop-off site at 600 Cherry St. labeled Christmas Tree drop-off in the parking lot.

“You can’t miss it, because there are a dozen Christmas trees there,” said a Negaunee official. Trees are to be completely clear of decorations and any plastic wrap or bags.

In Gwinn, there is a brush drop-off site on Iron Pin Trail where residents can dispose of their Christmas trees. Again, residents are to remove all plastic and decorations from the tree.

Chocolay Township and the city of Ishpeming could not be reached for comment regarding information regarding any disposal programs.

Starting at $4.62/week.
