Carnegie Library winter events underway

By Journal Staff

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library’s Winter Reading Challenge is encouraging people to submit their book reviews for a chance to earn prizes.

Folks of all ages, from young children to adults, are encouraged to participate. With the challenge beginning on the first and running through the month of January, there is plenty of time to log your reading or submit book reviews with the library.

Reading tracking can be done online through the Beanstack app or by visiting ishpeminglibrary.beanstack.org. Participants may also use paper reading logs or review slips and return them to the library if they wish to track their reading by hand.

Anyone who logs reading or submits reviews during the Winter Reading Challenge will be eligible for a free frozen custard certificate donated by Culver’s, along with entries for grand prize gift baskets.

“I hope the Winter Reading Challenge at ICPL is a fun way for patrons of our library to start the new year,” said ICPL Librarian Nicole Johnson in a press release.

In addition to the reading challenge, the ICPL is also hosting a series of community events throughout the month of January:

≤ Jan. 15 at 4:30 p.m., a free movie showing for adults of the 2024 release “Twisters” will take place in the community room.

≤ Jan. 16 and 30, 4 to 6 p.m. will be Open Book, a drop-in group for tweens and teens featuring crafts, movies, and other activities.

≤ Jan. 18 at 11 a.m., Kitty from Hope-Dreams Art will be leading a free craft program where teens and adults will get to make “junk journals.” Please call the library at 906-486-4381 to register for this event.

≤ Jan. 25, 12 to 1:30 p.m. will be a Silent Book Club at Velodrome Coffee in Ishpeming, located at 105 S Main Street. Everyone is invited to come and read, followed by time to socialize and chat about books.

Anyone curious about any of the library’s January programs or participating in the Winter Reading Challenge can stop by the ICPL at 317 N Main Street. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
