RAISING THE ROOF

MARQUETTE — Marquette County Habitat for Humanity hosted a Raise the Roof two-day event on Nov. 22-23 in Ishpeming at its 114th new construction site.

Thanks to its volunteers and staff, trusses and sheathing were placed over three-quarters of the roof in that two-day period.

In late November and December, the local Habitat for Humanity began installation and completion of a permanent ramp in Skandia. With the help of its volunteers, it was able to provide access for a couple having difficulty leaving their home for appointments and errands.

In 2021, with startup funds from Superior Health Foundation, it launched its ramp program to provide Marquette County residents with access to temporary and permanent ramps.

For residents arriving home from rehab in need of immediate, safe access to their homes, it can install a temporary metal ramp for up to six weeks at no cost to the individual.

For homeowners with ongoing needs, a permanent wooden ramp option is available with the cost being based on the household’s income.

For more information about its housing or temporary and permanent ramp programs, call 906-228-3578.

Starting at $4.62/week.
