NEGAUNEE — Democrat Joseph Derocha topped Republican Jacob Joseph Kleczka, for Marquette County commissioner in the 2nd District, with Derocha receiving 3,942 votes to Kleczka’s 3,027.
Dana LaLonde, a Democrat, was re-elected to her position as the county commissioner for the 4th District, accumulating 4,226 votes.
Pat Scanlon was elected mayor of the city of Ishpeming, receiving 2,269 votes. The Negaunee city mayor was chosen by 1,708 votes cast for Craig M. Ilmonen.
Democrats James B. Nankervis and Gary Lee Wommer each ran unopposed and were elected as the supervisors of Ishpeming and Negaunee townships, respectively. Democrats Nicole Hyry of Ishpeming and Rachel Sertich of Negaunee also ran unopposed for their positions as township clerks. Kristin Thornton, a Democrat, accumulated 1,532 votes to be chosen as the Ishpeming Township treasurer, with Kathleen Carlson, a Democrat, doing the same in Negaunee with 1,294 votes.
Curtis Sjoholm, a Democrat, and Republican David A. Bosio nearly split the Ishpeming Township trustee positions down the middle, with Sjoholm receiving 1,265 votes and Bosio receiving 1,262.
Republican Patrick L. Moyle with 1,242 votes and Thyra W. Karlstrom, a Democrat, with 1,056 votes will be taking on the Negaunee Township trustee positions.
Ben Argall (1,566 votes), Brett Argall (1,207 votes), and Jason Chapman (1,139 votes) were elected to take the three Ishpeming City Council seats that have four-year terms. They beat out Kevin Corkin, Mike Tonkin, Taylor Ruotsala, Claudia Demarest, Renelle Halverson, Cory Richards and Johnathon Naracon for the positions. Kurt Kipling, with 1,218 votes, beat out Phil Carter and Dax Richer for a partial council term that ends Nov. 30, 2026.
David Kangas, Amanda K. Ghanavati and Traci Dietz took the three-year seats on the Negaunee City Council, beating out Jeff Plummer and Tobias Smith. Jill Howard lost to Jon Becker for the partial term on the council ending on Nov. 30, 2025, with Howard receiving 783 votes compared to Becker’s 1,039 votes.
