Houghton County suspects arrested in meth investigation
CALUMET — Over the past several months, detectives assigned to the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team have been investigating a 40-year-old man from Calumet for the distribution of methamphetamine in the Houghton County area.
On Saturday, detectives from UPSET coordinated with the Michigan State Police Traffic Safety Team and Sault Tribal Police Department to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect, who was believed to be transporting drugs through Mackinac County.
The suspect and a 39-year-old woman from Atlantic Mine were identified in the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle, where officers seized drug paraphernalia, over $2,000 in cash and approximately one pound of crystal methamphetamine.
Both suspects were lodged in the Mackinac County Jail.
On Nov. 4, detectives from UPSET along with troopers from the MSP Calumet Post and deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in Houghton County. Additional evidence related to the distribution of meth, firearms and $1,500 in cash were seized. The names of the suspects are being withheld at this time and the investigation remains ongoing.
