Body identified as missing man
MUNISING — The Michigan State Police is ending the search for a previously reported missing man, according to a state police press release.
On Sept. 29, state police from the Negaunee Township post responded to a report that 65-year-old John Kueber was missing after he was believed to have gone kayaking on Lake Superior. Kueber was last heard from on Sept. 22.
Search efforts involved personnel from MSP Negaunee Township post, MSP Aviation, MSP Canines, MSP Marine Services Team, Alger County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and the National Park Service.
On Nov. 8, troopers were called to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore after hikers spotted a deceased subject’s body had washed ashore. The body was not initially able to be identified.
Through DNA analysis, MSP has now identified the body as that of the missing man, John Kueber. Foul play is not suspected.
“This is not the outcome any of us were hoping for. We offer our condolences to the family, friends, and all those who knew Mr. Kueber. We also thank all those who assisted in the search efforts.” said Lt. Ben Eckola.
