Man arrested on assault, torture charges
NEGAUNEE — A 23-year-old Marquette man, Adrian Tello, was arrested on Wednesday on a four-count warrant alleging incidents of domestic violence.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., a Marquette Police Department officer was dispatched to the UPHS-Marquette Intensive Care Unit regarding a 20-year-old Negaunee female receiving treatment for injuries reportedly received from a domestic violence incident in Marquette.
The investigation indicated the female had been repeatedly assaulted with a dangerous weapon, strangled and prevented from leaving by her boyfriend, Tello. The assaults occurred over multiple days at Tello’s residence in Marquette.
On Monday, the MPD executed a search warrant at Tello’s residence in Marquette. Further evidence of the reported crime was located during the search. Tello was not located at the residence.
On Tuesday, a four-count felony warrant was issued by the 96th District Court for Tello. The warrant includes two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation, a 10-year felony, one count of torture, which carries a term of life or any term of years, and one count of unlawful imprisonment, a 15-year felony.
Tello was arrested on Wednesday and lodged at the Marquette County Jail pending arraignment. Bond was set at $700,000 for all counts.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. as well as a preliminary examination on Oct. 10 at 9 a.m., both with District Judge Roger Kangas.
