Nyen appointed to state board on special education

MARQUETTE — Executive Director of Special Education Tammy Nyen of the Marquette-Alger Regulatory Service Agency was recently appointed to the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education to represent the Upper Peninsula.

Nyen, a state-certified special education director, has been an active member of MAASE’s national parent organization, the Council of Administrators of Special Education, since the beginning of her career at the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District.

This appointment will be Nyen’s second two-year term as the Region I representative, the first being from 2018-2020. Her experience includes serving as a special education supervisor and director of special education both at intermediate and local school districts, providing her with a deep understanding of the unique needs of Michigan’s rural education system.

“I am honored to rejoin the MAASE board of directors,” Nyen said. “I have dedicated my professional career to serving students with disabilities and I look forward to advocating for the needs of the Upper Peninsula as well.”

The MAASE board of directors guides the organization’s efforts to provide leadership development, collaboration and advocacy opportunities.
