One dead, three injured in Iron County crash

BATES TOWNSHIP –An Iron River man ia dead as a result of a two-car crash on U.S. 2 in Bates Township on Thursday afternoon.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post said the vehicles collided near Bates-Gaastra road on U.S. 2.
MSP said two people from Amasa were traveling westbound in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox while a 2003 BMW, occupied by a man and child from Iron River, was heading eastbound on the same road.
The BMW crossed the center line and struck the Chevrolet head on.
The driver of the BMW, Robert Trotta, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child who was riding in the BMW was treated and released at Aspirus Hospital in Iron River.
The driver of the Chevrolet was airlifted to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin for further treatment.
The passenger of that vehicle was transported to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office; the Iron River, Caspian, and Crystal Falls police departments; Michigan conservation officers; Michigan Department of Natural Resources Fire Division; Aspirus MEDIVAC; West Iron County Fire Department; Iron County Search and Rescue; Iron County Road Commission; and Northland Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
