Crisis averted in Ironwood gas station fire

MARQUETTE — A Tuesday morning fire at an Ironwood gas station is under investigation.

Just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Ironwood Public Safety Department was dispatched to the Krist Oil gas station located at 137 W. Cloverland Drive for a reported structure fire.

The officers found the back of the building on fire when they arrived.

A 500-gallon propane tank and a downed power line were also involved in the blaze.

Responding officers were able to control the fires upon arrival and minimize overall damage to the property.

According to Ironwood officials, residents may notice discolored tap water as a result of the firefighting activities.

The city of Ironwood Department of Public Works, Gogebic County Safety Department, Beacon Ambulance and Xcel Energy assisted Ironwood Public Safety at the scene.

Krist Oil thanked first responders for their rapid response to the fire on the company’s Facebook page.

The fire remains under investigation.

No information was provided about the extent of the damage to the building, or the propane tank involved in the blaze.
