Bergman challenged
To the Journal editor:
U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, has forgotten who he works for. I’m not the only one who has noticed this. The entire country now knows our congressman won’t face us in a town hall. It’s been nearly a decade since he last held one. That’s a long time.
Congress is supposed to be a check on the other branches of government. What does Jack say when we plead with him to do his job and protect his constituents against DOGE cuts? He says Trump was elected and washes his hands of us.
His job isn’t to have the president’s back. His job is to have ours. His job is to protect the veterans from DOGE cuts, from the very programs Jack worked on.
His job is to protect our small businesses from being wrecked by DOGE cuts. One program cut by DOGE, lamprey control. That keeps our fisheries healthy and fresh fish are part of our economy. Elon Musk had no business deciding we didn’t need lamprey controls anymore.
He has no business fiddling with programs he doesn’t understand. We almost lost our whitefish once. How dare he risk the health of our lakes.
That’s one. One issue Jack isn’t willing to take responsibility for. What will our elders do? What will our sick do? What will our vulnerable do? What about our grandparents? Our neighbors? Who will be affected next?
What’s Jack going to do?
If Jack doesn’t want to do his job, I’m sure someone else can.
Are you listening Jack? You work for us.
